“On behalf of Ontario’s Big City Mayors, I would like to congratulate Premier Ford on his party’s re-election,” said Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie, Chair of Ontario’s Big City Mayors. “ We have built a strong relationship with the provincial government and are eager to continue our work on municipal priority areas such as housing, cost of living, mental health, and climate change.”
Over the past four years, OBCM has worked closely with the government to bring forward the voice of big cities. We look forward to continuing this partnership, including through municipal participation in the Housing Supply Working Group and, as recently highlighted by the Premier, in discussions on recovery and renewal. Municipalities deliver vital local services and have been at the forefront of supporting local communities throughout the pandemic. As we work towards economic recovery, provincial support is essential to ensuring Ontarians continue to receive the day-to-day services they depend on.
Cities and the province cannot address these matters alone. We look forward to continued collaboration between all three levels of government as we address what matters most to all those in our communities.
We would also like to congratulate the many candidates who put their names on a ballot and raised awareness on priority issues in their communities. It takes incredible courage to run for office and we thank you for engaging in such an important process.
